FPA Sri Lanka is hosting a Social Enterprise Training for representatives from IPPF Member Associations of Malaysia, Pakistan, Albania, Morocco, Togo, Guyana who have arrived on a 5 day visit/programme. (20th – 24thNovember). This is a brief overview of what this visit entailed.
Day 1 was the Social Enterprise Training Workshop held at OZO, Colombo. Hony, President Mr. Chandima Gunawardena gave the welcome and introductions, "Expansion of the Social marketing programme", was delivered by Ms Sarah Onyango - Director Technical, Programmes Division, IPPF . Thereafter Ms Thushara Agus, Executive Director, FPA Sri Lanka lead a discussion on Sales and Marketing initiatives of each participating country.
Ms Agus and Mr Junaid, Marketing Director also presented a session titled " FPA Sri Lanka - A social enterprise'- an introduction to the sales and marketing programme of FPA Sri Lanka, SMP as a key income generator, and learning's from 40 years of implementation". Other sessions included 'Operational Development and Change Management by Mr Bradley Emerson- Consultant) and "Concept of Social Enterprise in a changing donor landscape by Mr Madhawa Edussuriya.
Day 2 involved the group travelling to Koggala to the location of our Service Delivery Point and observed the clinic in action. They also visited pharmacies where our products are sold in the town of Galle.
Day 3( today , 22nd November) - The participants will be at FPA Sri Lanka Headquarters to observe the ERP system in place, ( real time invoicing mechanism), and will be advised on the branding and promotion approaches for our diverse range of products ( by Mr Amila Gunasekara – Brand Manager). Thereafter a visit to the commodity store and an introduction to our Logistics and Management Information System will take place. The day will come to a close with a session titled “Taking your Social Marketing to the next level” conducted by Executive Director Ms Thushara Agus.
Day 4: A lot of group work/discussions will take place. Mr Travis Haputantri will be the moderator. Sessions will target the following areas - “Introduction to a formal business plan”, ‘Development of business plans”, “PEST and SWOT analysis, ‘Drawing the target market”, “Market segmenting”.
Day 5 – Mr Travis Haputantri will facilitate sessions on “Financial considerations of social enterprise, Development of a business strategy” which will lead to group discussions. Thereafter, presentations will be made of country business plans (group wise) and the facilitating of the development of Action Plans.
