FPA Sri Lanka's response to the Daily News article 'NCPA GETS TOUGH ON CHILD ABUSE' : http://www.dailynews.lk/2018/09/17/local/162804/ncpa-gets-tough-child-abuse
"FPA Sri Lanka is not in agreement with the statement made by the Chairman of the NCPA that calls for a common law to be applied for teenage marriages below 16 years.
The legal age of marriage in Sri Lanka is 18 years in terms of the General Marriages Ordinance and Kandyan Law. Sri Lanka is also a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child which states 'Governments need to have clear and consistent legislation that establishes 18 as the minimum age of marriage'.
