During the months February and March the volunteers from the Youth Technical Advisory Committee (YTAC) with the support of the Public Affairs, Policy & Advocacy Unit, established six committees across Sri Lanka.

The six youth committees are,

1. Batticoloa youth committee
2. Galle youth committee
3. Matara youth committee
4. Kandy youth committee
5. Ampara youth committee
6. Nuwara Eliya youth committee

As the Youth Technical Advisory Committee and other youth volunteers are based around Colombo the YTAC identified the need to extend its reach to areas out of Colombo. Therefore it was decided to establish youth committees across Sri Lanka in order to gather more ideas about current issues relating to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, toadvocate for SRHR among the rural communities and to build an active team of volunteers based in various parts of the country.

Volunteers from YTAC with the support of the Public Affairs, Policy & Advocacy Unit, travelled to the six areas mentioned above and spoke to groups of young people who were gathered through the Service Delivery Points of FPA Sri Lanka about the reason behind the establishment of youth circles and what services these group of youth could provide their communities on behalf of YTAC of FPA Sri Lanka. Each of the youth groups were advised to focus on community development projects which could be run at lower costs.

The Representatives of these youth committees will be guided by the YTAC to develop plans to reach out to more young people with correct information on SRHR by conducting different types of events and activities. They will also be asked to report ground level situations to YTAC in order for them to contribute adequately on issues of youth in the country. Further these committees will provide FPA with the trainings on the Comprehensive Sexuality Education and shall also participate and contribute to campaigns and programmes organized by FPA Sri Lanka.
