Education empowers! FPA’s Koggala SDP carried out an SRH education and awareness programme at the Goodness Foundation in Seenigama for adolescent girls.

Why is this important? Around the world and even in Sri Lanka, many adolescents and young people become sexually active without access to quality, accurate information, education and services regarding their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Owing to a lack of knowledge of SRH, they succumb to various situations such as unhealthy menstrual hygiene practices, unwanted sex, teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortions, reproductive tract infections (RTIs), and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV/AIDS. These have adverse effects on their mental health. This is why FPA, with the support of UNFPA Sri Lanka, carry out these education programmes throughout the country.
