A ToT (Training of Trainer) on Disaster Management and Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergencies (SRHiE) was conducted under the SPRINT Project on 22nd -24th January 2020, at the National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS), Kalutara. Participants were Trainers (Special Grade Nursing tutors in Public Health/ Public Health Nursing Tutors/ Regional Supervisory Public Health Nursing Officers) of the Part II, Midwifery Training Course.
The objective of this programme was to build capacity of these trainers to educate Public Health Midwife students on Disaster Management and SRHiE which will be introduced as new modules in the upcoming PHM curriculum. (A Public Health Midwife -PHM is the key health care provider at the domiciliary level in the Sri Lankan health care system.)
Dr. Harischandra Yakandawala, former Director Medical and present Consultant at FPASL, facilitated this training.
The introduction of these new modules is being carried out by FPA Sri Lanka and the Disaster Preparedness and Response Division, Ministry of Health (DPRD) in consultation with the Education, Training and Research Unit (ETR), Ministry of Health.
