SPRINT IV Project - Sexual and Reproductive Health Programme in Humanitarian Settings

Project Period – 1st January 2024 – 31st December 2024

Project Overview:

Emergencies, particularly those related to weather and climate, are becoming increasingly frequent and unpredictable. During these crises, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs often fall to the bottom of the priority list. The primary objective of the SPRINT project is to support the successful implementation of the Minimum Initial Service Package for SRH, which is a set of objectives internationally recognized to provide minimum SRH services in times of crisis, which are as follows.

1. Leadership in Health Sector Response: Ensure that the Health Sector/Cluster identifies an organization to lead the implementation of the MISP.

2. Prevention of Sexual Violence: Prevent sexual violence and respond effectively to the needs of survivors.

3. HIV and STI Prevention: Reduce the transmission of, and morbidity and mortality due to HIV and other STIs.

4. Maternal and Newborn Health: Prevent excess maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality.

5. Unintended Pregnancies: Prevent unintended pregnancies.

6. Integration of Comprehensive Services: Plan for comprehensive SRH services to be integrated into primary health care as soon as possible.

2024 Activities

In 2024, SPRINT will implement twenty targeted activities focused on three core indicators: Advocacy and Mitigation, Preparedness, and Recovery. Notable initiatives include:

- Community Engagement: Increased focus on community involvement, especially among youth and adolescents.

- Community awareness programmes on responsibilities in preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in emergencies (4 programmes across 4 districts).

  - Awareness programmes for adolescents on personal hygiene and protection during emergencies (12 programmes in 6 districts).

- Training and Workshops - Five MISP training sessions.

  - Two sensitization programmes for Youth with Disabilities.

  - One Humanitarian Data Management workshop.

  - One Value Clarification training programme.

- Policy-Level Activities: Ongoing efforts to shape and improve policy frameworks surrounding SRH in emergencies.

Expected Outcomes:

Through the SPRINT initiative, we aim to enhance the resilience of communities facing emergencies by ensuring that SRH services are prioritized and accessible. By fostering community engagement and empowering youth, SPRINT will play a crucial role in mitigating the negative impacts of emergencies on sexual and reproductive health.

By addressing these critical needs, SPRINT not only aims to save lives but also to build a foundation for comprehensive SRH services that will continue to benefit communities long after emergencies have passed.
