ReproSex 2024: Shaping the Future of Sexual and Reproductive Health

The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka will host ReproSex 2024, the International Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health, on November 5th and 6th at the BMICH. Marking a pivotal moment as the first event of its kind in Sri Lanka, ReproSex 2024 aims to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration among leading experts, policymakers, and practitioners from around the globe.

With an expected turnout of 350 delegates, this dynamic forum will feature a keynote speech, five plenary sessions, and 16 parallel sessions. The impressive array of 130 abstracts submitted from 20 countries underscores the global significance of this initiative, highlighting a collective commitment to addressing pressing SRH issues.

Emerging demographic trends, including ageing populations, declining fertility rates, and shifting migration patterns, present both challenges and opportunities for SRH policy and practice. According to Prof. Indralal De Silva, Emeritus Professor in Demography and Conference Chair, "These shifts demand a renewed focus on SRH policy and practice, ensuring that individuals across all age groups and socio-economic strata have access to SRH as a right."

The need for sexuality education is a priority in all countries. Young men are often omitted in programmes and policies, and their sexual health needs must also be addressed, especially for promoting responsible sexual relationships and safer sex. Addressing the unmet need of adolescents for family planning is both a public health and human rights imperative and it falls within the remit of the government’s policies and programmes”, emphasizes Dr. Iqbal Shah, the keynote speaker.

ReproSex 2024 will tackle current critical issues and emerging challenges in SRH, exploring innovative solutions that address the needs of diverse populations. The event promises to create a platform for dialogue and collaboration, ultimately shaping the future of SRH in Sri Lanka and beyond.

As the event approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a transformative gathering in the realm of sexual and reproductive health. The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka invites all stakeholders to engage in this essential conversation and contribute to a healthier future for all.
