Under the DFAT Respond Project, a capacity-building training programme for the Medical Laboratory Technologists attached to the seven Service Delivery Points was conducted on 29th and 30th July 2022. The training was facilitated by the AMRAK Institute of Medical Sciences, a training institute affiliated with the Durdans Hospital, Colombo. It was organized to train the Medical Laboratory Technologists to provide cervical cytology analysis services.
The training’s resource staff included Dr. Shreen Wilathgamuwa - Family Physician of the Wellness Centre - Durdans Hospital and former Director Medical of FPASL , Prof. L.D.Amarasinghe- Consultant Pathologist, Mr. Chandana Jayasinghe – Deputy Laboratory Administrator and Mr. Dushmantha Chandrasiri Satanarachchi - Deputy Technical Manager.
The extensive training included both theoretical and practical sessions on procedures to follow in PAP smear sample collection, PAP smear reporting and follow-up instructions, fixing and staining procedures.
