A free medical clinic was conducted last month in Malabe and Rajagiriya, for the benefit of the general public, offering health services at no cost. Independent of the work of the Outreach Unit, FPA Sri Lanka’s Medical Unit undertakes outreach activities through a variety of outlets, including a fully equipped modern SRH clinic at its headquarters, counselling centre, as well as other clinics rendering free services at numerous locations in and out of Colombo.
Services offered at these mobile clinics include the same family planning services available at the Centre for Family Health in Colombo as well as cancer screening via Pap smear and manual breast examination, counselling on sexual health, gynaecological problems, and STI/HIV and sub fertility. A range of free testing services are also offered, including tests for diabetes, blood pressure and BMI testing.
Some groups, the poor, marginalized and stigmatized still don’t get the care they need. It’s towards these groups that FPA Sri Lanka mostly directs its efforts to improve sexual and reproductive healthcare access.
