This impactful initiative was first created in 2004 to bring attention to the ongoing violence towards the LGBTQ+ community. May 17 became the designated day due to the 1990 World Health Organization’s decision to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. The theme for this year’s IDAHOBIT  is “Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing!”

In many countries, sexual and gender minorities continue to be among the most marginalized individuals and groups, often facing discrimination and exclusion from key services including health, education, and housing.

The Advocacy Unit launched a short film titled 'Breaking out from the Shadows'  showcasing experiences faced by two transgender persons who face challenges blending with society. The strong gender norms and attitudes of people are clearly reflected in this movie.

This movie was funded by Sex og Politikk (IPPF Norway) to address issues of stigma and discrimination faced by the LGBTIQ community.

සංක්‍රාන්ති සමාජභාවීය පුද්ගලයන් දෙදෙනෙකු මුහුණ පෑ සත්‍ය සිදුවීම් දෙකක් ඇසුරින් නිර්මාණය වූ මෙම කෙටි චිත්‍රපටය මගින් සංක්‍රාන්ති සමාජභාවීය ප්‍රජාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් සමාජයේ ඇති භීතිකාවේ, වෛරයේ සහ නොදැනුවත්භාවයේ එක් පැතිකඩක් පෙන්නුම් කෙරේ. සමරිසි භීතිකාව හා සංක්‍රාන්ති සමාජභාවීය භීතිකාවට එරෙහි ජාත්‍යන්තර දිනය ( (#IDAHOBIT) සමරනු ලබන අද දිනයේ මෙම චිත්‍රපටය ඔබට ගෙන එන්නේ විවිධ ලිංගික අනන්‍යතා සහිත ප්‍රජාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් සමාජය තුළ ඇති පටු ආකල්ප යම් ප්‍රමාණයක් වෙනස් වේයැයි අපේක්ෂාවෙනි.
