In March, the Family Planning Association of Pakistan (FPAP) visited FPA Sri Lanka for discussions with the Sales and Marketing Unit to receive technical assistance to understand the intricacies involved in becoming a key market player in contraceptive distribution, as well as to explore new channels for wider outreach.
At these strategic meetings, Mr. Suhail Junaid (Director Marketing) and Mr. Amila Gunasekara (Asst. Director Brands) were able to share their knowledge and experiences with regard s to the sustainability and self-sufficiency of FPA Sri Lanka’s SMP programme and insights to its success. The progression of brand development, marketing and promotional strategies, storage, sales, inventory controls, how to set up large scale distribution networks and supply chain strategies were also looked in to. By introducing a similar SMP programme to our’s, FPA Pakistan expects to achieve significant results in making an impact on reducing the maternal, infant and child mortality rates and TFR, as well as increasing accessibility, affordability and meeting the current unmet need for Family Planning services in Pakistan. The ultimate goal of FPAP is to be in a position to launch its own market oriented contraceptive distribution programme and generate additional income to further its cause of providing Reproductive Health and Rights services and information whilst minimizing its dependence on IPPF and other donors. A follow up meeting will take place when representatives from FPA Sri Lanka visit Pakistan in the near future for further discussions.
