Under the DFAT sponsored RESPOND project, the Outreach Unit conducted a training session on standard precautions for infection control at the Batticaloa Service Delivery Point on the 4th of October 2021.

Such mechanisms are universally used for all patient care. They’re based on a risk assessment and make use of common-sense practices and personal protective equipment use that protect healthcare providers from infection and prevent the spread of infection from patient to patient.

Dr.K Kirisuthan (Medical Officer of Health, MOH Batticaloa) provided general information on infection control. Key topics addressed were: COVID 19: new variants and available vaccines, cleaning and waste management, Correct disposal of medical waste and disinfection of clinic premises, managing a COVID 19 contact situation and the need for health information to be displayed at premises.

Dr.R.Navalogithan (RDHS Office, Batticaloa) conducted a session on COVID 19 Guidelines, and universal precautions followed. Key topics addressed were: Use of PPE equipment, hand and respiratory hygiene, infection screening and reporting, sharps safety, safe injection practice, and maintaining the sterility of instruments and devices.
